There’s always something going on at Platten’s – we’re adventurers at heart!
Last month, we turned to a cause that means a lot to our team. Four of our Platten’s Fish & Chips family have hiked a whopping 26 miles along the Norfolk coast to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Luke, Christine, Wyatt, and Tara strapped on their boots on 14th May and trekked all the way from Sherringham to Holkham. The team hoped to raise £1000 for Macmillan in the Norfolk Coast Mighty Hike … and they smashed their goal! Together, they collected £1681 for this important cause.
Macmillan themselves have thanked Luke, Christine, Wyatt, and Tara for their efforts. They explained that they could fund an information and support officer for over a fortnight. That’s truly life-changing for someone affected by cancer who needs support.

The journey was long, but the team kept smiling all the way! We spoke to our phenomenal four to find out more about their day doing the Mighty Hike for charity:
Macmillan is a charity close to many of the team’s hearts. “Cancer has affected so many of my close family and friends; I lost my dad 6 years ago and most recently my best friend,” Chris explains.
Her reason for the Mighty Hike is clear: Macmillan nurses work “with such incredible dedication and compassion, it’s not possible to put into words how valued their support is. I want to walk to raise money for Macmillan to help them continue their amazing work.”
Luke is equally grateful for the Macmillan nurses’ care. “My mum and Nanny have had breast cancer in the past,” he explains. The Mighty Hike for charity is both a financial and an emotional ‘thank you’ to staff care across the UK. “If it wasn’t for the hard work, support, and dedication of the team at Macmillan then they may not have been here today,” says Luke.
Our wonderful Platten’s team wants to keep the support available for everyone affected by cancer – “so that families and friends can keep on making memories for generations to come.”
We caught up with Luke, Christine, Wyatt, and Tara both before and after their endeavour. Here’s what they had to say about their preparation:
Christine’s already a walking pro, and has kept up training with her two favourite companions, Scampi and Mackenzie.
Luke split his time between the treadmill and the stony beaches of Cley, and Tara’s been enjoying countryside walks. Wyatt’s gone further afield, exploring the Peak District!
And then it was time to get going!
The team called the Mighty Hike “an incredible day”. It was a real challenge – exceeding everyone’s expectations – but the breathtaking Norfolk coastlines kept everyone going. Let’s not talk about the stony walk through Cley, though! There was one word: “relentless”…
The 26-mile trail took everyone through quaint fishing villages and beautiful beaches. Then, there wasn’t far to come home to Wells for a thoroughly-earned bag of chips.
“It was a journey that had you guessing at every turn and enjoyed by all,” said our team.
Everyone gave their best and we couldn’t be prouder of Luke, Christine, Wyatt, and Tara. Time to peel off the plasters and put your feet up…for a little while, at least.
We already want to get ready for next year, maybe with more of the Platten’s family involved!
