Spring is a magical time on the North Norfolk coast. As the salt marshes turn a vibrant green and the brisk sea breeze begins to carry the scent of gorse, Wells-next-the-Sea truly comes alive.
Whether you’re visiting for a family adventure or a quiet coastal retreat, Easter 2026 (April 3rd-6th) offers the perfect blend of tradition and relaxation. At Platten’s, we’ve been part of this harbour’s history since 1966, and we’ve curated the ultimate guide to making the most of your Easter break.

Just a stone’s throw from Wells lies the magnificent Holkham Estate. From April 3rd to 6th (10am - 3pm), the Walled Garden transforms into an enchanting world for little ones (suitable for ages 8 and under).
Easter Egg Trail: On arrival, head to Visitor Reception to pick up your free Easter trail sheet and set off on a parkland adventure!
The Cuddle Corner: Meet a brilliant band of adorable animals, from fluffy rabbits and guinea pigs to chickens, ferrets, and even ponies.
The Totally Amazing Magic Show: Watch in wonder as mind-blowing tricks and insane illusions are performed before your eyes.
Carl the Bubble Man: Follow the bubbles to find four days of "pop-tastic" fun.
Easter Races: Get competitive with classic egg-and-spoon, sack, and wheelbarrow races running all day.
The Spring Market (April 3rd-5th): Featuring over 50 local artisan producers selling everything from homemade jams to Norfolk gins. (Free entry).
Adventure Seekers: For older children, check out the Ropes Course (£24), Cycle Hire (from £12), or the free Woodland Play Area.
Pro Tip: Tickets for the Easter Garden are £7 for adults and children, and car parking information can be found on their website.

For train enthusiasts and families alike, Easter brings two unique railway experiences to the coast:

No trip to Wells is complete without a stroll to the beach. Walk along the sea wall or catch the beach bus to see the famous row of colourful beach huts. For those seeking tranquillity, the Holkham National Nature Reserve offers endless horizons and birdwatching opportunities where the sea and sky truly meet.
Beyond the beach and the big estates, the heart of Wells-next-the-Sea has many exciting hidden gems and activities:
Crabbing on the Quay: A rite of passage for any visitor. Grab a bucket and a line from one of the local shops, find a spot on the harbour wall, and see if you can lure a famous Norfolk shore crab with a bit of bacon.
Staithe Street Wandering: This charming pedestrian-friendly street is lined with independent boutiques, galleries, and traditional sweet shops. It’s the perfect place to find a unique coastal souvenir or a locally authored book.
Watch the Tides: There is something hypnotic about watching the tide rush in to fill the harbour. Grab a bench, watch the fishing boats return with their daily catch, and enjoy the slower pace of life.

After a day of exploring, there is nothing quite like a taste of the North Sea. At Platten’s Fish & Chips, we celebrate four generations of tradition.
The Restaurant: Enjoy award-winning, sustainably sourced fish and chips in our beautifully appointed harbourside restaurant.
Takeaway: Grab a portion of our MSC-certified cod and chips, wrapped in 100% recyclable packaging and enjoy them on the quay while watching the tide come in.
If you’re looking to turn your day trip into a true "Coastal Escape," our boutique accommodation offers a front-row seat to the rhythm of the harbour.
Boutique & Loft Rooms: Thoughtfully designed spaces featuring handcrafted details and soft linens, perfect for couples looking to unplug.
Family Apartments: Spacious, self-catering retreats with multiple bedrooms and stunning harbour views, ideal for gathering the whole family this Easter.
Our rooms are more than just a place to sleep; they are "Seaside Sanctuaries" designed to help you breathe again. Wake up to the scent of salt on the breeze and the sound of the working harbour waking up.

Just a 30-minute drive from Wells, Sheringham Park offers a sprawling woodland adventure. Their Easter trail runs from March 28th to April 12th, 2026 (10:00 am - 3:00 pm).
No booking is required, simply show up and explore the enchanting wild gardens.
For £3.50 per trail, participants receive bunny ears, a trail sheet, and a chocolate egg (dairy or vegan/Free From options available).
Activities: Try your hand at "bunny hoopla," snap a photo with giant butterfly wings, or test your senses at the smell station.
The Finish Line: The trail ends at the Ling Hut, but we recommend walking just a bit further for "eggs-tra-ordinary" coastal views.
Note: The trail is entirely dog-friendly, and normal parking charges apply for non-National Trust members.

For a truly sophisticated treat, head to the "quirky" town of Holt for an Easter Afternoon Tea at Byfords (Available March 30th - April 6th, 2pm - 4:30pm).
Served in their historic restaurant, this seasonal twist on a classic includes:
Sweet Treats: Mini egg chocolate cream tarts, carrot cake opera, and more.
The Classics: Byfords' famous fruit and cheese scones and seasonal sandwiches.
Pricing: £29.95 per adult and £13.50 per child (Save 10% with a Norfolk Passport).
Dates: Easter weekend runs from Friday, April 3rd, to Monday, April 6th.
Booking: Our rooms and restaurant tables fill up fast for the holiday weekend.
